DIAGNOSTICS

Sometimes your car may have a problem but it’s not easy to find out exactly what’s wrong. That’s where diagnostic testing can help. Using specialised software diagnostic tools, we can quickly and accurately find the problem by using the built in processors, microchips and sensors, that are built into most modern cars. These tools allow your car to talk to us and tell us what’s wrong.

At Peugeotech, we have custom specialised diagnostic tools for Peugeot’s, Citroen’s, Fiat’s and other European cars, as well as other car brands like Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, and more. These special tools don’t only give an analysis of your car’s engine, they can find faults in air flow, coolant, ignition coils, throttle and many other parts of your car. When you need a repair to your car you can be confident Peugeotech have the right diagnostic tools to find the problem and give us the right information so we can fix it with the minimum of fuss, and that can save you time and money.

Sometimes we have customers who have been quoted high prices only to find the repair is very simple and inexpensive.

In the event your engine has sustained major damage, we will explain the options which may include a repair, a rebuild or a new or reconditioned engine. Whatever option you choose, you can be sure we have the expertise and tools to undertake the repair and get you back on the road again.

BRAKES

A car’s brakes are critical for the safety of you, your passengers and other road users, that’s why every time we service, repair, or inspect a car, we always test the brakes and make sure they meet the required safety standards for safe driving.

SUSPENSION

Your car’s suspension is not just there to make your ride more comfortable, it is a critical part of the car’s safety system, If your suspension system fails or if it’s not working properly, it will effect the acceleration, cornering, handling and braking of your vehicle.

At Peugeotech, we have the knowledge and the right equipment to assess the suspension systems on all types of vehicles from small cars to large 4WD’s and everything in between. The suspension system in any car will not last the life of the vehicle, they have to be maintained and replaced. You can be sure that if you are a Peugeotech customer, we will provide you with the best advice on the condition of your suspension system, and when it needs attention, we will make sure we undertake the work that is required to make your vehicle’s suspension system is as good as new.

WHEEL BEARINGS

At Peugeotech, our safety checks and services always include checking a vehicle’s wheel bearings. Worn or damaged, wheel bearings can be very dangerous, and could even cause the wheel to stop while driving. Additionally, a damaged wheel bearing puts a lot of stress on the hub, the CV joint, and the transmission itself. Wheel bearings will not last the life of your car so at some point they will start to fail. There are ways we know that wheel bearings are nearer the end of their life, including, noise which comes from the wheel or tyre which can be confused with engine noise.

If you need your wheel bearings replaced, we have the equipment and mechanics who can get the job done quickly and efficiently, we recommend genuine parts for critical safety components like wheel bearings.

CLUTCH

The Clutch is a key component for all vehicles and it is designed to transmit torque from the rotating driving engine to the transmission. Depending on your vehicle, the clutch should last for over 100,000km. However, the clutch contains lots of moving parts like the drive friction disc, the plate, the release bearing and pilot bearing, so things can and do go wrong. Most Australian vehicles are automatic, which mean the clutch and gearbox engage independently of the driver of the car. If you have an automatic car and your clutch fails, the car will not move because the transmission won’t engage with the engine, that will mean your car will have to be towed. That’s why it’s important to have your clutch tested by a qualified mechanic before you set out on a long road trip.

Replacing a clutch is a specialist job, the clutch sits at the bottom of the engine and it’s hard to access. At Peugeotech, we have replaced hundreds of clutches on Peugeots and other European cars, which means we have the knowledge and experience to do the job quickly, efficiently and for a lot less money than most car dealerships.

ALTERNATOR

The alternator generates electric power in a car and is the major component of the vehicle’s charging system. If it goes wrong, your battery will stop charging and your vehicle will eventually stop running. An alternator is a maintenance-free unit, they are sealed and designed to be replaced if they fail. Depending on your car, the alternator can last for up to 10-15 years without any repairs. If an alternator fails, the car may still run for a short time on battery power. However, the engine will stall as soon as the battery charge is depleted. Replacing an alternator with a new OEM part is expensive, but there are alternatives. At Peugeotech, we will give you a choice and explain the benefits of a genuine alternator over a non genuine part.

If your alternator is failing, the charging system warning light on your dashboard should come on  but the light doesn’t always point directly to a failed alternator, although alternator problems are very common. We recommend you take your car to a professional qualified mechanic who has the right diagnostic tools to identify the problem.

GEARBOX

Most Australian vehicles come with automatic gearboxes, whereas many European cars have manual gearboxes. Either way, the gearbox on most vehicles will need attention sometime during the life of the car. Next to the engine, the gearbox is the most expensive part of the car to replace, due to the amount of work it takes to install a new one.

The good news is that if you look after your car’s gearbox and maintain it, the gearbox will continue to perform for 200,000km or more. The key to any car component is to make sure it’s properly maintained. At Peugeotech, transmission fluid levels are checked and topped up at every service. Your car’s gearbox will require transmission fluid replacement every 50,000km to 80,000km.

If you do have problems with your car’s gearbox and it needs replacing, we recommend you get several quotes as costs can vary. It is also best to use a specialist, at Peugeotech our technicians and mechanics have installed hundreds of gearboxes to Peugeot and other European cars. Knowledge and experience are very important when installing gearboxes and engines.

TIMING BELT

If you have not heard of a timing belt you are not alone. A lot of people don’t know what a timing belt is and why it’s essential that it is checked, maintained and replaced when worn.

Some engine components that can break without causing serious damage, but here is a WARNING, if your timing belt breaks the crankshaft will continue to spin, while the camshaft will stop turning. This is very bad, the result means the engine pistons will continue to rise and fall in their cylinders and can, in some instances, strike the valves. When this happens, the pistons, valves and cylinder heads will be damaged. Worse still this happens instantly, and you can’t prevent it, often the result is catastrophic, and the engine is damaged beyond repair. For this reason, we recommend you get your car serviced with a mechanic who will check your timing belt and adjust the tension. This is best performed by a professional, if your timing belt is too loose or tight, it may fail.

As a precaution we recommend you replace your timing belt after 80,000km or 5 years.
